The World Architecture Festival (WAF) has proudly released the definitive shortlist for its 2026 Awards. This distinguished selection highlights completed buildings, groundbreaking future projects, innovative interior designs, and inspiring landscape architecture from a diverse range of international submissions. These chosen finalists will advance to the festival's main event, scheduled to take place at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from November 18–20, 2026. Over the initial two days of the festival, shortlisted teams will engage in live presentations of their projects to a panel of esteemed international judges. Following these presentations, category winners will then proceed to the festival's Super Jury for the ultimate awards selection.

The 2026 Completed Buildings shortlist encompasses an extensive array of project typologies, ranging from vital civic and cultural institutions to modern housing solutions, educational facilities, transportation hubs, healthcare centers, and adaptive reuse initiatives. This year's selection proudly features works from globally recognized practices such as Foster + Partners, Herzog & de Meuron, Studio Gang, Grimshaw, Perkins&Will, RSHP, Woods Bagot, KPF, Nikken Sekkei, VTN Architects, and Sanjay Puri Architects. Additionally, the shortlist acknowledges the innovative contributions of emerging studios from various corners of the world. The festival's adjudicating body is composed of 164 architects, designers, academics, and industry experts representing 37 countries, with specialized Super Juries presiding over the Building, Future Project, Interiors, and Landscape award categories.

M3 Monaco's Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous has initiated its sixth annual architectural competition, inviting creative minds to reshape the stunning Adriatic waterfront of Marina Opatija. This prestigious call for ideas encourages architects and students to propose innovative, high-impact interventions focused on sustainability and the rich cultural heritage of the region.

Details of the Design Challenge at Marina Opatija

The competition, organized by M3 Monaco's Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous, seeks visionary designs for Croatia's historic Marina Opatija, situated on the picturesque Kvarner Bay. As one of Europe's oldest seaside destinations, Opatija boasts a unique blend of Austro-Hungarian elegance and Mediterranean charm. The challenge, which opened for registration on March 1, 2026, focuses on three mandatory building elements: a central Marina Hub, a dynamic Sailing School, and a captivating Sea Attraction. Designers are encouraged to explore form, materials, and programming beyond minimum requirements, emphasizing wellness, elegance, and energy efficiency. Proposals are expected to align with six core principles: sustainable development, wellness and functionality, historical and natural integration, innovative design, contextual sensitivity, and community value. Furthermore, each submission must address at least three UN Sustainable Development Goals, clearly outlining their environmental and social impact. The judging process involves an independent jury, with scores based on compliance, innovation, sustainability, functionality, and aesthetics. Submissions are due by midnight on August 19, 2026. The top five finalists in both professional and student categories will be announced on September 8, 2026, followed by an exhibition and live presentations at the esteemed Yacht Club de Monaco from September 20–21, 2026, where public votes will determine the ultimate winners.
