The Poet's House, conceived by Next Office, is an inspiring example of adaptive reuse located in the heart of Tehran. This project involved meticulously restoring the former home of the celebrated Iranian poet and dissident, Ahmad Shamlou, and converting it into a thriving cultural center. The design's core philosophy centered on preserving the building's historical integrity while infusing it with new purpose and accessibility.

Architectural Ingenuity: A Poetic Promenade

At the heart of the architectural intervention is a unique spatial element. The design extended a second-floor wall, which originally bore a handwritten poem by Shamlou, into a dynamic, three-dimensional promenade. This artistic and structural backbone serves as a symbolic bridge, gradually opening the interior of the house to the urban fabric. This promenade is not merely a pathway but a journey that reflects the fluidity and depth of poetic expression.

Bridging Divides: Private Courtyard Becomes Public Forum

Traditionally, courtyards in Iranian homes were private enclosures, intimate spaces shielded from public view. However, in this project, the courtyard undergoes a significant metamorphosis, transforming into an inviting public open space. Nestled deep within the verdant jungle canopy of Puerto Escondido, Casa Ohana offers a singular living experience that masterfully navigates the interplay between intimate seclusion and expansive openness. The architectural vision behind this residence was to create spaces that feel both protected and connected to the rich biodiversity of its tropical environment.
